In the 18th century, explorers found a vast treasure trove of scrolls in the remnants of what was once a thriving coastal community. It is considered to be the largest extant library from the ancient world. Most of their secrets have remained hidden due to the extreme fragility of the scrolls. But new scientific methods are allowing researchers to decipher their contents without destroying the scrolls. It is very technical, and much of it is above the head of this author; however, the very idea that we will soon have an unprecedented glimpse into the ancient world is amazing.
