The Smithsonian has announced that it is banning the selfie stick in all of its museums.  You can read the story here.  It is the latest museum to make this move, and its reasoning is similar to the issues I brought up in an earlier post concerning selfie sticks. This includes concerns for the integrity of collections pieces as well as the safety of other patrons.  A spokesperson for the museum noted that those who wanted to indulge in a selfie had plenty of other opportunities to do so across DC.

The Smithsonian was wise to make this choice.  While all museums should be sensitive to changing trends in society and whether they should attempt to adapt to new trends, there are some trends that are best left at the door.
